GENERAL INFORMATION:   Come and fish the Northeast's most prolific tail water fishery for native and stocked brown and rainbow trout up to 18 inches. The Farmington River is stocked annually with over 30,000 trout (12 to 14 inches) by the State of Connecticut.

This river has two excellent fishing sections: The first is upstream from the Campground Pool to the Hitchcock Chair Factory. Here one encounters glides, riffles, pocket water and deep pools that hold many large trout. If you are lucky enough to catch any large trout in this area, you may keep and cook them.

The second area is the TMA (Trout Management Area) which is two and a half miles long. It starts at one mile above Church Pool and ends downstream at the 210 Bridge Pool. Some of the more famous pools such as Morgan's Brook, Greenwood's, Central Riffle and Boneyard, are to be found in this BARBLESS HOOK, CATCH AND RELEASE ONLY AREA.

Your fly box should include:

NYMPHS: Prince, GRHE, Caddis Pupa with or without beadheads.

WETS: Cahills, Soft Hackle, March Brown.

STREAMERS: Black and Olive Conehead Woolly Buggers (Sizes 8-10) and Muddler Minnows (Sizes 8, 10, 12).

DRIES: Tricos (Sizes 20-24), Caddis (Sizes 14-16), Rusty Spinners (Sizes 14-18), Royal Trudes (Sizes 10-12) Light Cahills (Sizes 16-18) and Sulphurs (Sizes 16-18).

To fish the river, you can use a 7 1/2 to 9 foot rod with a floating 4-6WF line. Leaders should be 7 1/2 to 12 feet long and split shots are recommended in the faster moving water.

Waders, felt sole boots, walking staff, Polarized sunglasses, wading belt and water bottle are MUST ITEMS.

Remember to bring your tent, sleeping bag, pillow and campfire chair. Also, medications, insect repellent, soap and other sundries, washcloth, towel and shower shoes.
