Susquehanna River Smallmouth trip-2002
Monday to Wednesday,  September  9th -11th

Are you a bronzeback fan?  I’d rather fish for smallmouth with a flyrod than eat, and we found a great place to pursue them.  Last September we booked a trip with our favorite guide, Tom Baltz to the Susquehanna River.  There we found a smallmouth paradise, chock fulla rocks and runs holding an abundance of bass.  We liked it so much we’ve decided to do it again this year.  This trip will run from Monday, Sept. 9th to Wed. the 11th.  We will be staying at the Sleep Inn off Route 81 at exit 14.  Cost for the room will be $79.00 plus tax for a double occupancy room.  There is a Cracker Barrel restaurant  next door to the motel,  and also fine dining available at the Boiling Springs Tavern or the Market Cross Pub.

The water should be low at that time of year and the current should not be a problem, however I recommend this trip for the experienced wader, as the bottom is boulder strewn and the water murky. A wading staff, polarized glasses and belt are a must.  A 9 foot rod, six to eight weight will be suitable, equipped with floating line to match.  Early hours will call for poppers, either foam or deer hair, then as the sun gets higher you will be using small Clouser patterns and streamers.

If you want to split your trip you may fish for trout one day on the Yellow Breeches, as it is a short trip from the hotel.  The PA fishing license for a Non-Resident for 3 days will run $20.50 with the Trout Stamp.  Deposits for the rooms will be collected at the July 2nd General Meeting  - For further details please call Lee Weil at 516-997-6743.
