Natchaug River Camping Trip
The Natchaug River Camping Trip will take place this year April 30 – May 2. The cost for 2 people to a campsite will be $70. This includes dinner Friday and Saturday nights, breakfast Saturday and Sunday and pack-your-own lunches on Saturday and Sunday. We are limiting the group to 15 campsites. In order to save your spot, we must have your money. The March meeting will be the last time to sign up. If you have any questions, just ask us.

Take a Buddy Fishing

Meet Flat LIFR. He’s Flat Stanley’s cousin and an avid fly fisherman. As a new
Flyrodder, he is eager to accompany you on your fly fishing trips.
Although not willing to share the cost of your trip, Flat LIFR will otherwise be a good companion. His sunny disposition won’t fade if he doesn’t catch fish and he won’t comment on your casting ability. He doesn’t snore, either. All Flat LIFR asks is that you take him along and photograph him on your fishing adventure. At the end of the year, turn in your photos showing where you took Flat LIFR and we’ll see who came up with the most creative way to show him in a fly fishing setting. Remember, this is all in good, clean fun and the pictures should reflect that. If you’re interested in taking this buddy fishing, see Susan Solomon. |
The latest on Didymo
On April 27, 2009, the New York State Department of Environmental Conservation (DEC) Commissioner Pete Grannis
announced that didymo, an invasive species, has been confirmed in the Esopus Creek in Ulster County.
This is the first known presence of this aquatic algae, also called “rock snot,” in the Esopus and the third confirmed location in New York State. The Esopus is a popular recreational waterway for fishing, kayaking and tubing, and is a drinking water source for New York City.
DEC collected samples and confirmed the presence of didymo in the vicinity of several public access sites along a 12-mile stretch of the Esopus from the “Shandaken Portal” (which transfers water to the Esopus from Schoharie Reservoir) to New York City’s Ashokan Reservoir.

Several local fishing tackle shops have set up a collection box where one can deposit used monofilament line for recycling. Linda Macy has volunteered to provide this service for the club by coordinating this effort with the "Berkley Recycle Program. She will be collecting used and discarded fishing line at the general meetings and sending it to Berkley to be recycled into artificial fishing structures. Please make sure you remove all hooks, metal attachments and debris before depositing your used line in the box.
