About LIFR: As its name implies, the Long Island Flyrodders is a club dedicated to the sport of fly fishing. Membership is open to anyone regardless of sex, age, race, religion, handicap, place of residence, level of expertise or social status. The only requirements for joining and maintaining one's membership are: Paying your dues on time and acting in such a way that it does not bring dishonor or disgrace on the club.
| The Long Island Flyrodders came into being in 1981 when a handful of dedicated fly fishermen from Long Island and Queens decided to form a club to pursue their sport. In 1985, the Long Island Flyrodders was reorganized as a structured club with corresponding by-laws, nominations and elections. During that year, The Flyrodder, the official monthly publication of the club was also launched. Today, the club consists of more than two hundred members and is, without a doubt, the leading fly fishing club in the East. | ![]() Fishing in the Adirondacs |

To maintain its visibility and contact with its members and other fly fishers, the Long Island Flyrodders publishes The Flyrodder and exhibits a booth at several fly fishing shows. In addition, in its quest to help the less fortunate, the club sponsors annual "Handicap Days". This is where the members help the handicapped casting, catching and releasing fish on the Connetquot. The Long Island Flyrodders is also a participant in Project Access a hands-on project designed to maintain and restore streamside ramps and paths for wheel chair use and Casting for Recovery, an organization whose mission is to provide fly-fishing retreats specifically tailored for women who have or have had breast cancer. The Long Island Flyrodders is a member club of Friends of the Connetquot, Catskills Fly Fishing Center and the Federation of Fly Fishers.
