This fly was featured in the March 2001 issue of Fly Fish America.

Tying Instructions:

1a,  Position a beadhed (optional)

1b. Tie a short tail with the barred yellow feather

2. Secure the tinsel and green floss, wrap floss forward and secure. Leave space for the head.

3- Spiral the tinsel forward and secure. I twist the flat tinsel as I wrap forward to "round" it.

4- Place a few strips of flashabou over the body (by the head) and secure.

5- Drape yellow marabou over the flashabou and top it with three strands of peacock herl.

6- Turn fly over and secure a small piece of red marabou (to suggest gills). Trim it short

7- Wrap several turns of black thread to fashion the head.

8- Whip finish and secure thread with cement.

Member's Comments:

This pattern was designed to incorporate both the green and yellow colors, which are favored by the fish and anglers of Western North Carolina. Although conceived as a trout fly, the "Carolina Belle" tied in in larger sizes has proven to be very effective for Smallmouth bass as well.
